YOU.HOW

Where do you start to make a difference? How do you begin to you make an impact?

CHOOSE to become proactive. Make Up your mind that you are going to be part of the solution. Sign up and make donations NO MATTER HOW LITTLE. If everyone did that, poverty wouldn’t stand a chance!

SPECIFICALLY:

DONATE – Even if you don’t have much. In 2010, we provided clean water to over 900 people in Nigeria with under $1300. That’s 100 people giving up one movie night. Your little and our little can do a lot. (Click here to Donate your own way) (Remember we are a 501c3 tax deductible organization)

GET CREATIVE– Have a “Barnabian Birthday”-A birthday for a cause. Some people have been successful with this. This is how it works:

So you have a birthday coming up, let it be for a cause! Contact us, and we will put a donation button on our webpage for you. AS a gift to you, your friends will be able to go to that page, and donate to your “Birthday for a cause” so let’s say your name is “FirstName LastName”, your friends will come to the DONATION page on our website, and click on the DONATE button that says “FirstName LastName’s Birthday for a cause” . We will open that for a certain time frame at the end of which you will be able to see how much people donated BECAUSE OF YOU. You will be able to see how you were able to lead your friends and family to change the world.

JOIN THE MOVEMENT – On the home page, there is a section to “Join the Movement”. Do so. Most donors and stakeholders want to be kept abreast of what is going on. Why shouldn’t you?

RE-EVALUTE!

Nothing wrong with coffee, magazines, a new hairdo, pretty nails, dry cleaning, valet parking, movies, eating out, happy hour or hobbies. HOWEVER, its important to always think about fellow human in extreme poverty. If you put aside $1.25 for every $10 you spend on “stuff”, per week, even a low budget college student could donate $5 a month….how much more working professionals who could easily donate much more. If 500 of us donated $5 per month, it would total $30,000 at the end of the year. That WILL put a dent in poverty so what are we waiting for in this generation??? Can we afford to wait any longer???Take the challenge. Don’t just FEEL…DO.

The everyday stuff:

  • Turn off the lights when you leave home
  • Don’t leave the water running when you brush your teeth
  • Enjoy food but be more conscious about NOT wasting food
  • Look in your closet…find old stuff you can give away (you can contact us about that)

Shaving

Of course shaving is good…gets that clean look going …puts that skip in your step. That’s great and we don’t want to take that away from you. Afterall, you’re probably the best looking person in the room when you shave in the morning.

What we DO want you to think about is that you’ll probably reduce the amount of water you used for shaving by a whopping 60% or more if you only turned on the tap when you needed it and not leave it running.

The toilet bowl is not a waste basket…well…ok yea it is…but it should only be used for the stuff you can’t leave out:o)

The average person flushes the toilet at least 5 times a day. Each flush uses about 5 gallons of water depending on the age/design of the toilet. THAT’S AT LEAST 9000 GALLONS OF WATER A YEAR! JUST FLUSHING TOILETS. Now think about a household of say…4 people and that number jumps to OVER 36,000 GALLONS OF WATER. We are not saying don’t flush your toilet, just be aware. Don’t flush down every tissue you wipe the counter with….throw that in the wastebasket…

IF EACH PERSON FLUSHES ONE LESS TIME A DAY, THAT SAVES AT LEAST 1700 GALLONS A YEAR…A HOUSEHOLD OF FOUR SAVES OVER 6,800 GALLONS A YEAR!

Brushing your teeth

AAAAHHHH YEA…the piano keys…Gotta get rid of the morning breath. That’s important….what’s also important is that most people just leave the tap running and use UP TO 2 OR MORE GALLONS OF WATER!

Try turning off the tap when you brush your teeth and you could reduce the water you use by more than 75%!! For someone that brushes twice a day, that SAVES HUNDREDS OF GALLONS A YEAR!!!!
