About Barnabian's Cove

We are a 501c3 non-profit organization but we are normal people just like you. Yup. Some of us are in school at different levels, some are married with kids and some are even retired. What unites us and makes us different is that we don't just want to feel for those suffering from extreme poverty in the world. We want to DO something about it. We may not have much…we may not live in poverty stricken areas, or even know anyone who does…but that wont keep us on the side lines.

Over 26,000 children will die today because of hunger and poverty, and  over 1 million children die each year because they don't have access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation. We don't feel good about that…more importantly, we are DOING something about it.

Core Principles:

  • The poorest of the poor and vulnerable groups in rural communities of the third world (especially women and children) will be the focus of our activities
  • Special areas of interest are poverty reduction, enhancing child survival by reducing infant mortality, and removing constraints to better productivity and wellbeing
  • Participation of/partnership with local institutions (Non-Governmental Organizations, religious organizations, and other development organizations) in all aspects of intervention.

Every intervention is designed to achieve SUSTAINABILITY through:

  • Treating local community people, their resources, capabilities and institutions as social capital instead of mere targets.
  • Wherever possible and to whatever extent possible use local materials and expertise to implement interventions.
  • Building the capacity of the local community to identify their own problems, and design/implement solutions.
  • Designing strategies that will build community ownership of the project and consequently the commitment to continue managing it,
  • Creating a partnership with local people and institutions to ensure they share both the responsibilities and benefits of the intervention.
  • Empowering community institutions through capacity building and training in Organization Management, Financial Management and Project Cycle Management. This will be achieved through direct sharing of project responsibilities.

Our Philosophy
It is not just about donating...it's about offering sustainable solutions to extreme poverty and everything that comes with it.

Go Ahead and Think About It
By the end of today, many of us would have eaten out at fancy restaurants, taken family trips to fun theme parks, visited a local mall for some well deserved shopping, visited the office vending machine once or twice or even had a $4 cappuccino. The BARNABIAN philosophy is NOT that any of these is bad, wrong or even undeserved. The difference is that we believe that as we enjoy these privileges, we remember that they ARE privileges and that we CANNOT afford to neglect the women and children who are dying during childbirth because the basic medical treatment we take for granted are not in place; Or the child who is orphaned because of AIDS; Or the people who are digging through piles of garbage to eat; Or those in refugee camps waiting for airplanes for a food fly-by; Or the 1 million people who die each year from malaria…a disease that can be treated in most cases with less than $10; Or the mothers who are simply too weak from hunger to breast feed their babies.

We are going to enjoy our lives. YES. But we are going to play our part in the fight of making poverty history. JOIN US….BE BARNABIAN
